I'm a freelance/fiction writer who has worked in a wide variety of subjects and genres, including: features, sports, profiles, interviews, travel, comics, comedy, obituaries, book/music/movie/restaurant reviews, technical, and business writing.  I can turn a story around quickly, with clean copy, and always have room on my schedule for additional projects.

Work History

My first paid freelance work was a profile on actor Tom Lenk when I was 18-since then I've published over 3,000 articles online and in print.  In college I spent four years working for the alternative newspaper, the Union Weekly, and cut my chops writing for every section, including the satirical back page.  The paper gave me a chance to try my hand at nearly every aspect of publishing-in addition to writing, I edited the Literature page for two years, learning to use layout software (Adobe CS3), working with multiple writers, and creating a short story contest that still runs in the newspaper; I was in charge of copy editing for three years; I served as our books PR contact, arranging interviews with authors and obtaining review copies; I was in charge of distribution for two years, responsible for the delivery of the newspaper, as well as staying abreast of pickup trends; and I was Managing Editor of the paper my final year, responsible for the day-to-day operations of a 40+ volunteer organization.

After graduating college, I tried graduate school for a year before opting to head into the workforce-I focused on freelance writing for a year, working with a number of publications before I settled into a regular job as an Editorial Assistant at Bobit Business Media, where I worked for several months before leaving.  During this time I also began to concentrate on building a career as a fiction writer, publishing a handful of stories in Southern California journals, and beginning a novel I've recently finished and begun the process of selling.

For the past two years, I've served as Managing Editor of the Long Beach Post's sports site.  At the Post, I've been in charge of bringing in material from a number of writers, as well as producing an enormous amount of content myself, creating and overseeing the editorial direction of the site, and increasing our hit counts, as we've grown by over 100% in readership from our first year to our second.  It's a time-intensive, rewarding job that's made me appreciate the value of working on a project you truly love-that's the kind of job I most enjoy, one which allows me to throw myself fully into something I believe in.
